Rough Waters:
Toronto's Rocky Relationship with the Island
Toronto Island has had an often controversial relationship with the rest of Toronto. From the preservation of residential communities and the staging of rock concerts, to debates over access and the fate of the Island Airport, the value and role of the Island in the city has figured prominently in Toronto discourse. This exhibit traces the lines of various debates, setting them against Torontonians’ stories of visits to the Island, such as its use by newcomers as “cottage country.”
